Rose was in an accident.

On Labor Day, 9/3/07, Rose and her mother were involved in a serious car accident. Rose and her mother were taken to Greenville Memorial hospital an placed in ICU. Her mother is recovering well, but Rose has been in very serious condition and had been unconscious until this morning.

With many thanks to the powers that be, she has regained consciousness and we are hopeful her recovery will continue.

Update - Sept 11th, 2007
Rose's mother was released from the hospital yesterday. Rose also continues to get better - she's out of ICU! She has been taken off the ventilator and is eating and drinking on her own. Rose is even saying a few words and signing her name.

The doctors are planning to operate Thursday afternoon in order to work on her diaphragm and check on some internal organs- so please hold off visitations Thursday and Friday. They expect some pretty major work and may have to bring her back to ICU. Keep up the support! We'll keep you updated.

Update - Sept 18th, 2007
Rose has been eating solid food on her own since Monday evening (September 18th). Bleeding has stopped and her chest tube was removed this afternoon. She is due to go to Roger C. Peace Rehab Center on Wednesday September 19th for an intense inpatient rehab program.

Visiting hours at Roger C Peace: Mon.-Fri., 4:30-8:30 p.m. Sat. & Sun., 1:30-8:30 p.m.

Update - Sept 20th, 2007
Rose is now at Roger C. Peace room# 3904. Her IV has been removed and she is anxious to start walking. Her intense Physical, Speech & Occupational therapy starts today.

Update - Sept 24th, 2007
Second week of therapy and she’s made such a good progress. It’s so noticeable that she gets compliments from other patients in the hallway. Rose is currently restricted to non weight bearing on her left leg. Depending on the next x-ray result (in a week or two), her doctor may change it to 50% weight bearing. With no diet restrictions, we may get her some sushi this week.

Last night was the first time that she read the blog. Today, her speech therapist said that it was a good idea to let her read it every night before going to bed.

Update - October 3rd, 2007
Unfortunately Rose’s Left Leg non weight bearing status has been extended for another two months (total of 3 months). I was told that her orthopedic surgeon is very conservative and wants to allow sufficient healing time.

She is due to be discharged from Roger C Peace and go home this Friday (October 5th) and start outpatient therapy the week of October 8th.

Update - October 15th, 2007
Outpatient therapy started today. For now she is due to go to Roger C Peace outpatient facility in downtown three days a week, 3-4 hours a day. She is in very high spirit and is counting the days until her none weight bearing restriction is lifted, which is to be reviewed and lifted on December 3rd.
