Rose was in an accident.

On Labor Day, 9/3/07, Rose and her mother were involved in a serious car accident. Rose and her mother were taken to Greenville Memorial hospital an placed in ICU. Her mother is recovering well, but Rose has been in very serious condition and had been unconscious until this morning.

With many thanks to the powers that be, she has regained consciousness and we are hopeful her recovery will continue.

Please add comments to post replies with your wishes and thoughts.

Update - Sept 11th, 2007
Rose's mother was released from the hospital yesterday. Rose also continues to get better - she's out of ICU! She has been taken off the ventilator and is eating and drinking on her own. Rose is even saying a few words and signing her name.

The doctors are planning to operate Thursday afternoon in order to work on her diaphragm and check on some internal organs- so please hold off visitations Thursday and Friday. They expect some pretty major work and may have to bring her back to ICU. Keep up the support! We'll keep you updated.

Update - Sept 18th, 2007
Rose has been eating solid food on her own since Monday evening (September 18th). Bleeding has stopped and her chest tube was removed this afternoon. She is due to go to Roger C. Peace Rehab Center on Wednesday September 19th for an intense inpatient rehab program.

Visiting hours at Roger C Peace: Mon.-Fri., 4:30-8:30 p.m. Sat. & Sun., 1:30-8:30 p.m.

Update - Sept 20th, 2007
Rose is now at Roger C. Peace room# 3904. Her IV has been removed and she is anxious to start walking. Her intense Physical, Speech & Occupational therapy starts today.

Update - Sept 24th, 2007
Second week of therapy and she’s made such a good progress. It’s so noticeable that she gets compliments from other patients in the hallway. Rose is currently restricted to non weight bearing on her left leg. Depending on the next x-ray result (in a week or two), her doctor may change it to 50% weight bearing. With no diet restrictions, we may get her some sushi this week.

Last night was the first time that she read the blog. Today, her speech therapist said that it was a good idea to let her read it every night before going to bed.

Update - October 3rd, 2007
Unfortunately Rose’s Left Leg non weight bearing status has been extended for another two months (total of 3 months). I was told that her orthopedic surgeon is very conservative and wants to allow sufficient healing time.

She is due to be discharged from Roger C Peace and go home this Friday (October 5th) and start outpatient therapy the week of October 8th.

Update - October 5th, 2007
Last day at the hospital

Update - October 13th, 2007
Ahhhh it feels good to be home

Update - October 15th, 2007
Outpatient therapy started today. For now she is due to go to Roger C Peace outpatient facility in downtown three days a week, 3-4 hours a day. She is in very high spirit and is counting the days until her none weight bearing restriction is lifted, which is to be reviewed and lifted on December 3rd.

Cuídate y no hagas locuras.

Given the fragility of life,
Each of us remains a miracle,
Though new emerged from some bright sea of pain.
When every second feels just like a knife
Entering the soft flesh of the will,
Life whispers soon we will be well again.
Linger, then, along the edge of shade;
Soon enough you will be in the sun,
Open-armed, erect, and unafraid.
Old wounds remind us of fierce battles won,
Nor will our patient faith not be repaid.

Querida prima Rose,
Luis, Elizabeth, Liz Ann, Christine y familia.
Te queremos mucho.

Rose,
I was in Germany when Yashar emailed me and told me you had been in a serious wreck. I called Keyvan shortly after my return and was so happy to hear your mother is out of the hospital and you have moved out of ICU. You and Keyvan are so genuine and one of the nicest couples I have met in my entire life. It is such a joy to be around you both and I am sure the other people in the center are happy to be around the two of you. Continue to get better so you can both come visit me in DC!

Dear Rose,
Miguel and I are sooo happy that you will be going home soon. The hospital and rehab environment are at times draining on both the patient and the family. Once you are home, you will feel so much better. We've been talking to the family and know that Keyvan has been at your side constantly. Now at home, with Frankie's delicious pasta and Milagros' Cuban mothering your recovery period will be much more tolerable! We will visit soon from Miami! We love you and continue to worry about you and pray for your recovery as well as for the wellbeing of Keyvan and the Mogavero clan.
We'll see you soon.

Hello Rose and Keyvan,
Good to see you are out of the hosptial! Hope you get to eat at your favorite reaustrant soon and are skipping around downtown Greenville. So to give you a funny laugh, my Persian mother came up for my bithday last weekend. We get to the reaustrant that night and when we finish eating she asks for "four go aways" The waiter looked confused and I had to tell him she meant a to go box. Then 20 min later she asked a guest (who had been to Iraq) with the DoD if she had worked in the fields. We were all genuinely confused for a minute. She then repeated you know-work the fields- like FBI agents. So I am making fun of my Mom's English and twenty minutes later- I say you know that person really grew up a stick. Everyone looks at me funny. Finally a friend said, do you mean he grew up in the sticks? I had to reply yes and of course, my mother began to make fun of me immediatley. Guess I got what I deserved! Gooffy story but thought you could use the laugh.
Email if you need anything at all Rose.
